Synopsis:

Teenager Astrid Magnussen (Alison Lohman - Big Fish, Matchstick Men) leads a curious, dysfunctional life. Her free-spirited mother Ingrid (Golden Globe® winner Michelle Pfeiffer - The Fabulous Baker Boys, I Am Sam, What Lies Beneath) has just killed her lover, and now she's doing prison time.

Astrid gets a crash course in real life as she moves from one foster home to another - with former stripper Starr (Robin Wright Penn - A Home At The End Of The World, Forrest Gump) and B-movie horror actress Claire (Academy Award® winner Renee Zellweger - Cold Mountain, Chicago, Down With Love).

The film, told from Astrid's point of view, shuttles between Astrid's periodic visits to her mother in prison and time spent with her surrogate "moms".
