What Dreams May Come (1998)

Synopsis:

Already assured of his position as one of cinema's visual geniuses, director Vincent Ward's (Map Of The Human Heart) latest slice of fantasy - the Oscar winning, What Dreams May Come - proves that with an intelligent script on which to meld his distinctive design sensibilities, he's capable of making a film that's both profound and visually breathtaking. Robin Williams (Bicentennial Man) stars as Chris Nielsen, a doctor who is killed in a freak accident and is survived by his wife, Annie (Sciorra, Jungle Fever). He wakes up in a private universe which miraculously takes the shape of his wife's semi-impressionist paintings. And to Chris death isn't so bad, especially with guide Albert (Gooding Jr , Chill Factor, Jerry Maguire) around to show him the ropes. However, back on Earth, a depressed Annie is confronted with the fact that she can't go on without Chris and subsequently commits suicide. Since this condemns her to the Hell section of the afterworld, Chris decides to risk spending eternity in Hades for a small chance that he will be able to bring her back to heaven.
