Two Brothers

Synopsis:

French filmmaker Jean-Jacques Annaud is known for films of a more abstract subject matter like Quest for Fire, Seven Years in Tibet, Enemy at the Gates and The Name of the Rose.

On rare occasions, Annaud takes a break from the profound and Two Brothers is his second foray into the wildlife genre, after the highly successful The Bear.

Two Brothers is a heartwrenching tale about two tigers separated as cubs and taken into captivity. Kumal and Sangha live and play among the ancient temple ruins in a South-East Asian jungle.

Well-known explorer Aidan McRory (Pearce, Memento, L.A. Confidential) represents all the excesses of British Colonialism and kills the adult male tiger during one of his lavish hunting parties.

McRory takes pity on Kumal and saves the cub. Sangha, meanwhile, is discovered by Raoul (Highmore, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Finding Neverland).

Eventually, through a series of events, both Kumal and Sangha are tragically reunited not as brothers but as enemies forced to fight one another for sport.
