Synopsis:

When worn-out ex-cop Harry Ross (Newman) agrees to help wealthy friends Jack Ames (Hackman) and wife Catherine (Sarandon) he finds himself up to his neck in blackmail and murder. Threading a fine line between the law enforcers and law breakers, his dogged pursuit of the truth requires him to renew old acquaintances and leads him to uncover dark secrets that are best kept hidden.
