| The Mothman PropheciesSynopsis: If you're a fan of unexplained mysteries (Loch Ness, Bigfoot, or the Yeti) then you may have heard of the Mothman, a strange flying creature that stands about eight feet tall and has hypnotic, glowing red eyes. In 1967, hundreds of Mothman sightings were reported around the small town of Point Pleasant, West Virginia - coincidentally the site of a bizarre disaster that claimed 46 lives that very year. This Mark Pellington (Arlington Road) supernatural thriller is loosely based on the events that led to the aforementioned tragedy. Richard Gere (Unfaithful) heads the cast as John Klein, a hard-hitting newsman for the Washington Post. He and his wife Mary (Debra Messing, TV'sWill & Grace) are happily married, fully contented with life - that is until they get involved in an automobile accident. John makes it out with a few superficial bruises, however Mary was not so lucky. Before she dies, Mary regains consciousness for the last time and tells Jack that she had swerved the car to avoid hitting a large winged creature that had appeared in the headlights. Two years pass, Jack remains devoted to his work and while driving out of town to Point Pleasant on an assignment, he meets the local sheriff who reveals to him that several townspeople have reported seeing strange figures, tall and winged, while others have experienced mysterious bleeding eyes and ears. Experiences that match Mary's descriptions. Intrigued, Jack investigates further - only to be shocked at what he uncovers. |
