The Fighting Temptations

Synopsis:

Having lost his job and finding himself deep in debt, former big-time New York City advertising executive Darrin Hill (Academy Award® winner Gooding Jr., Radio, Boat Trip) returns to Georgia when his only living relative dies.

All he wants to do is pay his respects and get back to New York --- then he finds out that his aunt has left him an inheritance. He thinks he has the solution to his money woes right there and then, but there's one condition he has to fulfill before he gets his inheritance: He has to reconvene the church's choir and lead them to the "Gospel Explosion" competition.

After recruiting a local barber shop group, a beautiful night club singer named Lilly (Knowles, Austin Powers In Goldmember)-- who also happens to be his childhood sweetheart, and a few convicts at the local prison, he finally has the raw talent necessary to win. But can he break them down and bring them all together?

Not only that, devious ex-choir member Paulina Pritchett (Richardson, Within These Walls) doesn't have much love lost for Darrin; she wants his position badly. Movie critic Roger Ebert says the film "generates so much good will and so many laughs... [The Fighting Temptations] has its heart and its grin in the right places."
