The Door in the Floor

Synopsis:

Yet another of bestselling author John Irving's novels makes it to the big screen--- and "The Door In The Floor" could be what The New York Times calls "the best movie yet made from Mr. Irving's fiction--- it may even belong in the rarefied company of movies that are better than the books on which they are based."

Successful children's book author Ted Cole (Bridges, The Moguls, Seabiscuit) spends his time drinking and indulging in an extramarital affair with a neighbor.

Ted's wife Marion (Academy Award® and Golden Globe® winner Basinger, Cellular, Elvis Has Left The Building) fares no better. She has closed herself off to their little daughter Ruth.

It's no secret that their marriage has been on the rocks ever since a tragic car accident claimed the lives of their twin boys. When 16-year old Eddie O'Hare enters their lives, Ted and Marion begin to use him to assuage their guilt feelings.

An aspiring writer, Eddie is chosen by Ted to be his assistant for the summer, and Eddie is honored. But as he spends more time in the house, Marion takes notice of him--- Eddie surprisingly looks like one of her dead twin boys. Marion begins to seduce Eddie. The repercussions of this act threaten to sever the troubled family, and young Eddie grows up too fast, too soon.
