The Cell

Synopsis:

The most talked about music video / TV commercial director has finally made a jump to feature films. Yes, the man behind those amazing REM videos and Diesel ads, Tarsem Singh's first feature film effort is nothing short of brilliant.

In fact, critics have gone so far as to call this the most daring production to come out of Hollywood since The Fight Club. In this chilling, Oscar-nominated psychological thriller, Jennifer Lopez (Enough) stars as Catherine Deane, a psychologist who revolutionizes a radical technique of synaptic transfer as a means to enter another person's subconscious.

FBI agent, Peter Novak (Vaughn, Jurassic Park: The Lost World) believes this technique may be the only hope of rescuing the last victim of comatose serial killer, Carl Stargher (D'Onofrio, Men In Black). Catherine agrees to enter Stargher's subconscious and attempts to locate the hidden cell in which his latest victim had been left to die.

But to enter Stargher's subconscious is to literally step into a nightmare - as she soon discovers. Overwhelmed by Carl's vision of hell, Catherine becomes trapped.

Now, Peter must rescue her before she is lost to the twisted world forever. Director Tarsem does an amazing job at creating a universe of its own, full of horrifying memories of Carl's past floating in between stunning visuals that are a combination of camera tricks and creative special effects.

Simply not to be missed. "Suspenseful, brilliant and visionary" Roger Ebert.
