Tender Mercies

Synopsis:

Broken by the bottle and years of depression, singer Mac Sledge (Oscar winner Robert Duvall, The Godfather, Apocalypse Now) wakes up washed out in a quiet motel owned by Rosa Lee, a shy Vietnam widow. In exchange for performing odd jobs, Mac gets free room and board.

He gets close to Rosa and eventually proposes marriage. While Mac has worked to forget his past, it soon comes back to haunt him. Seems his ex-wife, singing sensation Dixie Scott is performing next door in Austin. Over their unhappy married life, they've stacked up lots of baggage - including an 18-year old daughter Sue Ann, whom Mac hasn't seen for 6 years.

Against her mother's wishes, Sue Ann pays him an unexpected visit one day and tells him that his music means a lot to her. All fired up, Mac takes a whack at his new song and performs in a local band. It is a recording hit.
