| | SpiderSynopsis: Spider (Ralph Fiennes) is a deeply disturbed boy growing up in the east end of London. He witnesses his father murdering his mother and replacing her with a prostitute, Yvonne. He sees them both bury his mother in his father’s allotment. The community in which they live seems unaffected by the murder and Spider is horrified to think they have got away with it. He thinks that they plan to murder him next. To protect himself, he decides that he must kill Yvonne first, for he believes her to be the one responsible for the death of his mother. He hatches an insane scheme, and carries it through to tragic effect. On his release Spider moves into a halfway house run by a landlady called Mrs. Wilkinson. Unsupervised and entirely left to himself, he soon stops taking his medication. He revisits his childhood haunts. His attempts to sustain his delusional account of his past begin to unravel. Spiraling into fresh madness, he is driven to believe that Mrs. Wilkinson is actually Yvonne – the woman he thinks he has already murdered once.
