Walter (Osment, Edges Of The Lord, Artificial Intelligence: A.I.) is being sent away yet again by his floozy, no-good mom Mae (Sedgwick, Loverboy, Soemthing The Lord Made). This time, it's off to live with his two cranky great-uncles, Garth (Academy Award® and Golden Globe® winner Caine, Around The Bend, The Statement) and Hub (Academy Award® and Golden Globe® winner Duvall, Open Range, Gods And Generals). The two have amassed a fortune, the result of their many adventures during their youth. But they now live a low-key existence in the Texas heartland, no phone, no TV, their cantankerousness a perfect foil to the many con artists who want to rob them of their wealth. Reluctant at first, Garth and Hub begin to slowly open up to Walter and regale him with swashbuckling tales of adventure in their younger days. What could have turned out to be the most disastrous visit for young Walter becomes the best time of his life as he begins to bond with his uncles. Berardinelli goes on to praise this film as having "enough charm and whimsy to capture the imagination and attention of children and parents alike", and is "one of the best live-action family films". Casts: Michael Caine, Robert Duvall, Haley Joel Osment, Kyra Sedgwick Duration : 104 minutes
