One True Thing

Synopsis:

In this exceptionally moving family drama, Ellen Gulden (Zellweger, Me, Myself & Irene, Jerry Maquire) jeopardizes her career and relationship with her boyfriend to return home and take care of her dying mother, Kate (Streep, Music of the Heart, The Bridges of Madison County, Sophie's Choice).

Forced to interact and come to terms with those around her, she begins to see her parents differently. Having lived in the shadow of her parents since childhood, Ellen is not sure what to expect. Her mother, she soon realizes, is so much more than the expert home-maker she has spent her life being; and her father George (Hurt, Michael, The Big Chill), although gifted, is not the literary giant she believed as a child, and is now floundering under the expectation of a life without his wife.

Poignantly, a series of amusing and painful miscommunications bring her closer to an understanding of the full complexities of her parents' daily existence.
