Memphis Belle

Synopsis:

This war drama was produced by David Putnam in partnership with Catherine Wyler, whose father William Wyler directed an acclaimed documentary about the real-life events depicted in the film. The ensemble cast is composed of young Gen-X hunks portraying the crew of the titular World War II B-17 bomber. Having won fame with their exemplary war record and amazing lack of casualties, they expect their final assignment to be easy, but instead they are ordered to bomb a heavily defended German city which would almost certainly result in loss of life. Making up the crew, is Luke Sinclair (Tate Donovan) - an easy-going lady-killer; Rascal Moore (Sean Astin) - a hyper wiseass; Danny Daly (Stolz) - a tender Irish guy; Clay Busby (Harry Connick Jr.) - a singer; Phil Lowenthal (D.B. Sweeney) - a scared loner; and Val Kozlowski (Billy Zane) - a slick doctor with a dark secret. They are led by their experienced captain, Dennis Dearborn (Modine), who shoulders the responsibility of keeping his crew's morale high despite mounting fears that they may not all be going back home alive.
