Leap of Faith (1992)

Synopsis:

Faith healer Jonas Nightingale (Martin, Novocaine) suits up for divine inspiration as he leads a traveling revival show into the little town of Rushwater, Kansas.

Charisma, he's got in spades. But faith? You've got to be kidding. But with a little worldly help from the outside, Jonas is conning the pants off the local townsfolk who feel miracles are worth paying for.

And for money, Jonas will make you any miracle you want. While he 'preaches' to his innocent flock, his beautiful assistant Jane (Winger, Big Bad Love) is busy scouting out physical problems in the audience, and then informing him about it through an earpiece. He now has the power to 'foretell'.

The audience buys it, but the skeptical sheriff (Neeson, Gangs Of New York, Exorcist 4:1) doesn't. He sees Nightingale for the fraud that he is and wants to expose him. The con is definitely on. Jane is sent to seduce the lawman, but falls in love with him instead.

In the end, the phony prophet meets a real challenge-a crippled boy who believes Nightingale can heal him. For free. He may not know it, but a miracle's about to happen.
