Hysterical Blindness

Synopsis:

Uma Thurman's (Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2, Paycheck, Pulp Fiction) performance in this intimate, character-driven drama won her the Best Actress Award at the 2003 Golden Globes®.

Sharing the limelight with her is Gena Rowlands (Taking Lives, Wild Iris) who won Best Supporting Actress at the 2003 Emmy Awards for her performance in this film, as well as Juliette Lewis (Starsky and Hutch, Cold Creek Manor, Natural Born Killers).

The film centers on three working-class women - Debby Miller (Thurman), her mother Virginia Miller (Rowlands), and Beth (Juliette Lewis) - in a small town in New Jersey in the 1980's. Best friends Debby and Beth resort to desperate measures to find "Mr. Perfect", but always end up finding men with no interest in a relationship whatsoever.

Much to their surprise, Virginia finds herself in a relationship with a retired widower. Beth is initially hostile to it, but over time, she and her mother ultimately grow closer.

This movie is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Mira Nair (Monsoon Wedding, winner of the Golden Lion for Best Film at the 2001 Venice Film Festival).
