Helter Skelter

Synopsis:

Hypnotic and sinister commune leader Charles Manson (Davies, Manderlay, Dogville) manages to convince his followers that he is their savior. He attracts pathetic, lonely souls who flock to him --- among them Linda Kasabian (DuVall, The Grudge, Carnivale).

Linda arrives at the California commune in the summer of 1969 with her baby in tow. Her child is taken away to be raised communally, and her identity fades.

Drugs and sex come into play in the commune, and the concepts of right and wrong are soon blurred. Manson orders his followers to rob rich people's homes. All these events come to a terrifying climax when Manson finally orders Linda and her commune mates to slaughter pregnant actress Sharon Tate and her four friends on that fateful night in August 1969.

After more murders and his subsequent arrest, Manson is brought to trial. The film, told mostly from Linda's point of view, focuses more on Manson, his "family," and the atrocious murders they committed than on the trial itself, making this remake no less electrifying and riveting as the 1976 original.
