Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Synopsis:

Take a by-the-book adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson's writings, leave it in the crazed hands of director Terry Gilliam (12 Monkeys), get indie stalwart Johnny Depp to play the lead and you've got a potentially lethal sensory overdose just waiting to explode on screen.

Depp (From Hell) stars as Raoul Duke, a writer who's been assigned to cover a motorcycle race in Las Vegas. Together with his totally revolting lawyer sidekick, Dr Gonzo (Oscar winner Del Toro, Traffic) the two spend their time taking a variety of mood and mind altering drugs to narcotically enhance their take on the city.

Needless to say they get smashed beyond recognition and start hallucinating. And the best part is - we see what they see - namely giant flesh-eating reptiles, animated bats visible only in sunglasses, carpets coming to life, B-52 Bombers flying around motel rooms. Yep, pretty much normal stuff for a Gilliam movie. And yet the startling imagery, drugs, and excessive vomiting are disturbing to say the least.

Either way, Johnny Depp gives an awesome performance supported by cameos from the likes of Christina Ricci (Sleepy Hollow), Tobey Maguire (Spiderman) and Cameron Diaz (Charlie's Angels).
