Synopsis:

Based on the novel by Stephen King, this gripping character-driven thriller examines the tension between Selena (Leigh, Childstar, The Machinist), a successful New York journalist, and her mother, Dolores Claiborne (Academy Award® winner Bates, The Bridge Of San Luis Rey, The Little Black Book). Selena is forced to confront Dolores when the latter becomes the prime suspect in the murder of rich society matron Vera Donovan. Dolores' motive is clear to her accusers, one of which is John Mackey (Emmy® Award winner Plummer, National Treasure, Alexander), a detective who has been trying to put her behind bars for twenty years. As Vera's servant, Dolores has endured forty years of abuse - often being at the receiving end of Vera's acid tongue, and trying to live up to her impossible standards of cleanliness. As Selena tries to reconcile her difficult relationship with her mother, she gradually becomes compelled to confront the demons of the past. In the process, Selena also uncovers long-hidden secrets about the house where she grew up, her parents' relationship, and the deeply buried childhood terror that eventually led to her father's death.
