A Lesson Before Dying

Synopsis:

Based on Ernest J Gaines' best-selling novel, this film is set in late '40's rural town of Louisiana where a 21 year old plantation worker, Jefferson, is wrongly accused of killing a store owner. He is sentenced to death after his white attorney equates him with a lowly hog. A well-spoken black teacher, Grant Wiggins returns to try and make a difference to the lives of children there. He is soon persuaded to visit Jefferson to impart a sense of dignity to the boy before he dies. The two form a special bond that even death cannot break.
