8 Mile (2002)Synopsis: Welcome to 8 Mile --- a gritty stretch of road in inner-city Detroit that separates the haves from the have-nots. Jimmy "Rabbit" Smith (convincingly played by controversial and Grammy® Award winning rap star Eminem in his first acting role) lives in a trailer home with his drunken washed-out mother Stephanie (Academy® Award winner Kim Basinger - L.A. Confidential, 9 1/2 Weeks). He's stuck in a dead-end job as a factory drone, and he wants out. The only way he knows is through his budding talent as a rap artist --- not easy when he's the white kid trying hard to make music in a predominantly African-American community. He joins a rap battle only to seize up. Rabbit thinks his chances are blown, but with the support of his close friend MC Future (Mekhi Phifer- Dawn Of The Dead, ER), and girlfriend Alex (Brittany Murphy- Just Married, Girl, Interrupted) he struggles to work up the courage and confidence to take one more shot at making his dream a reality.
